Threat Signal and Chimaira 8/21/13

Canadian Nuclear Blast recording artists Threat Signal appeared on their tour date stop supporting headliner Chimaira of “Eone” Music and The Browning of “Earache” records following them close by on the same tour last night at the beloved Gramercy Theatre in Manhattan NY. Chimaira is celebrating the released of their  new album “Crown of Phantoms” which released at the end of July 2013 under Eone music (who they have had on their roster since 2011) Threat Signal had a half hour set while Chimaira played a whole hour (obviously more time because of headlining spot). Chimaira’s significance to this tour was unique being that the entire band was brand new EXCEPT for singer Mark Hunter. However, being that the show ended at 10:30pm, it was a bit disappointing to see the event finish so quickly. Time goes by when you’re having fun or destroying venues in a fashion that was seen to be believed last night. The overall show must of drawn around 200 people but those 200 made it feel like 400+ due to the sheer moshing and crowd surfing. Threat Signal played with passion and such tenacity that it was easily the highlight of my night. Their setlist included songs off their current self-titled album along with their second album “Vigilance” and “Reprisal” Hits such as: Haunting, Through My Eyes, Comatose, A New Beginning, The Beginning of The End, Faceless and Rational Eyes. Being that I took the time to pursue interacting with the members, they were humble and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the previews of the shots taken. I also managed to score new friendships and networking with Matt Perrin who was filling in, Travis Montgomery (who I met back in March as he toured with The Jeff Loomis Band)  Joey Muha and Pat Kavanagh. Jon Howard was unavailable at the time I was talking to the rest of the band. The lighting was pretty on point considering the light guy used white fluorescence with fog which created a smokey blue atmosphere onto the photos I captured. No complaints but as usual Gramercy has a habit of not having certain illuminations on faces and emotional characteristics to truly bring out the photos. But, I make due with what is available. Make sure to check out Threat Signals self-titled album released under Nuclear Blast Records along with their prior albums “Reprisal” and “Vigilance” and a big congratulations to Chimaira with “Crown of Phantoms” and Mr. Mark Hunter on his success.
