Shane Hawkins captured his late father’s spirit in a powerful tribute.

Son of Taylor Hawkins of the legendary Foo Fighters, Shane Hawkins  sat on drums for a cover of the band’s hit single “My Hero” over the Fourth of July weekend at a Laguna Beach block party, reported by Variety.

Shane Hawkins joined local band The Alive at a neighborhood roof to perform the tribute, captured on video and posted to TikTok last week.

“When Taylor Hawkins’ son gets on the drums and dedicates the song ‘My Hero’ to his dad,” the title screen reads.

“The hawk would’ve been proud,” written in the caption.

The Alive band has close ties to the Foo Fighters, thanking the Laguna Beach community and police for, “not shutting us down”. It was only appropriate that the location of the block party tribute took place in Laguna Beach, the home city of Taylor Hawkins, which he often visited.

The Alive opened for the Foo Fighters at Lollapalooza Chile only a week before Taylor Hawkins’ death and previously for the Taylor Hawkins cover band, Chevy Metal.

Taylor Hawkins’ social media accounts announced that his bandmates are planning two tribute shows for September.
