Review: Bring Me The SOLD OUT SHOW!

In the world of Modern music, I highly doubt Bring me the Horizon needs any introduction. After all, Frontman Oliver Sykes said it best. “Do you wanna start a cult with me?” For fifteen years, the band has risen from underground deathcore status to refined metalcore heroes and now finally modern rock messiahs. B.M.T.H have become the unsung heroes to many younger fans of Rock music, while plenty of other fans have cried foul at the band, labeling them as sellouts for not sticking to the true sound that they started. It doesn’t matter to them, B.M.T.H has stated that they have outgrown that sound. B.M.T.H is headlining Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom for two nights in a row with legendary rock Alt-Rock heroes Thrice and wild newcomers The Fever 333. This is another must see WORLD tour if you’re looking to catch some extremely talented bands.

Bring me the Horizon’s current sound blends together Coldplay, Linkin Park and Blur. 2015’s, “That’s the Spirit” record was a full blown transition to the mainstream sound. But, it still kept in some of the edgier and obtuse features that B.M.T.H was always known for. In comparison,  the recently released record “Amo”, is another stylistic take on their rock sound. Opening up with the first single “Mantra” is all about making the crowd excited in a bouncy feeling. People began moshing in a frenzy. The whole floor of Hammerstein was like an uncontrollable tidal wave of bodies. The groovy guitar rings, simple electronic samples and raspy vocals from Frontman Oliver Sykes makes this band stand out wonderfully in a live setting. The general admission proved to be a perfect setting for a wild mosh pit. The setlist featured a number of hits like “Sleepwalking”, “Can You Feel my Heart”, “Follow You”, “Shadow Moses” and much more. Also, as an extreme call back to please older fans there was a short melody featuring the heavier songs like “(I Used to Make Out with) Medusa” and “Diamonds Aren’t Forever”. Definitely a wonderful way to please many different fans of B.M.T.H. Bring me the Horizon definitely does everything it can to make sure all of their fans are having an incredibly fun night and I believe they totally succeeded at that. From metal to rock and even to electronic. B.M.T.H’s music is a true definition to the Jack of all trades. So good, this tour added a second night at Hammerstein by popular demand.

Thrice: Cell photo captured by Phil Ryabkin.

As one of the most revered post-hardcore acts of all time, Thrice has been writing wonderful groovy melodies for 21 years. Their sound is almost like a mix of Faith no More meets At the Drive In. Thrice is one of the more calmer sounding bands in Post Hardcore for sure, but they can still show some aggression here and there. This is why they’re such a great fit to open up for B.M.T.H’s First Love Tour. Vocalist Dustin Kensrue has an extremely calm tenure in his voice, but sometimes he’s can show off his aggression with some excellent screams. Melodic guitar passages with a hint of jazz are what Thrice is truly known for. Thrice’s setlist was also a solid 11 songs, which was able to span a good number of their catalog. Newer hits like “Hurricane” & “Black Honey” did an excellent job at getting the crowd warmed up. Then classics like “The Earth Will Shake” and “The Arsonist” really got fans in the mood at The First love show. B.M.T.H truly succeed in getting opening act’s that can get people excited.

The Fever 333: Cell photo captured by Phil Ryabkin.

The Fever 333 is a wonderful supergroup featuring members of bands like LetLive & The Chariot. They have the chaotic sound that both bands are known for, but they add their own unique flair that makes them one of the most interesting newer bands to come out of the current rock scene. Frontman Jason Aalon Butler has a voice that’s so unique. His rapping style delivery but heavy metal screeches give him a great identity that helps a band like The Fever 333 truly stand out. As it almost sounds extremely reminiscent to what Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington were doing on the early days of Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory record. But then, he talks like revered Rage Against The Machine’s Frontman Zack De La Rocha. Butler truly knows how to mix up his vocal style in a number of fantastic ways. Hip Hop like samples and plenty of Alt-Rock style’d guitar sounds that throw you back to the days of Rage Against the Machine are an excellent mix. With one EP and full length currently out at the moment, The Fever 333 has plenty of time to grow into a very respectable act. They pumped out an energetic setlist that can definitely get a crowd in the mood and they truly achieved that.

A sold out show at Manhattan’s famous Hammerstein Ballroom is NO EASY FEAT, but B.M.T.H pulled it off with absolutely flying colors. This is truly a show that made plenty of fans extremely happy. This is a massive tour I highly suggest you check out with no hesistation. Tour dates down below!
