Fit For An Autopsy 2/4/14
The “Eone all star tour package”, I mean Chimaira’s “Celebrate the Chaos” tour package was nothing to be frowned upon. The fact that 3 roster members on one record label are touring together is pretty good. Mention that its Chimaira headlining with Fit For An Autopsy and Reflections with Oceano and IWrestledABearOnce, then you turn that “pretty good” into a “I NEED TO ATTEND”. The show started off fairly behind schedule at Revolution in Long Island in the aftermath of snow storms across the New York Tri-State area and Long Island area. As bad luck would have it, the weather was suppose to get worse with a rain/snow mixture as the night progressed. Coming on the Long Island Rail Road from Manhattan was a clear sign that I was NOT going to stay long for this show (takes me around 2 hours to Amityville back to my home). Cap it off with NO photo pit and I could of easily called this show a lost cause from a journalist’s point of view. The mosh pits only escalated as the bands went on stage from what I can assume. I left around 9:20pm right when Earache Records own Oceano was on stage. Their pit was ridiculous. There was no way, in the blue hell, I was going to be able to stay in the front and NOT get hit by a pitter. With Fit For An Autopsy, people knew that there was a cameraman in the front of the stage, so they respected the distance they SHOULD abide to when dealing with camera equipment of a qualitative value. Fit For An Autopsy is ridiculous live. Its almost scary how much control they have over people during shows. Patrick Sheridan (guitars) and Shane Slade (bass) are intimidating individuals on stage. They yell out lyrics while singer Nate Johnson does his thing. Also in a aggressive manner, The entire band comes to the front on stage, demand the start the mosh pits and warn when breakdowns are emerging from the song even though their fans already know. It is a good forewarning for me as I have enough time to run out of the front row to take photos and back into the sides, which are SUPPOSE to be designated safety zones. I learned those aren’t safe places at Revolution. The pits only grew as their set went on and even a fight broke out to which Nate stated after singing The Wolf, “Don’t use all your energy for us and don’t get into fights. Save it for the other acts as well and if you don’t care about fighting and getting kicked out then whatever, its your night” Tim Howley (guitars) took the show with a smile on his face of a menacing manner. He kept quite reserved that night and focused on playing his part. His mother was also in the audience which was a very nice change of pace. I always like to see band members have family come to see them. It puts a smile on my face. Josean, the bands drummer, is not to be slept on. This guy has chops and can compete with those who have already dug into the trenches of music touring. He also has NO photos of himself from tonight’s show thanks to the harsh purples and blue lights that went on during the show. I am not pleased about this as drummers NEVER get love from me as a photographer because of focal length issues or poor lighting. It drives me insane. Never the less, Josean and the entire band are humble and very down to Earth people. They command the respect they have worked hard to earn and return it in spades. Character traits this rare are clear signs of how far this band is going to succeed. I stand by them and will continue to do so. There was no set-list on stage for their set.
