12 Foot Ninja 5/12/14

Melbourne has imported to us their greatest “heavy fusion” Australian band and quite possibly one of the best bands I have met and photographed, Twelve Foot Ninja. You know how? because they showed up to my backyard last night at The Studio at Webster Hall. Being close to the venue, I had no problem getting there early. Not to mention, my opening statement (this is my second time shooting them live and I stand by it) is NOT a stretch of the truth. By far one of the more humble bands out there and also Revolver Golden God recipients for “Best New Talent.” With the release of “Silent Machine” back late 2012, the band has made quite strides into the good ol’ U.S of A. Making tour packages with bands such as Fear Factory, Periphery, Born of Osiris, Tesseract and appearances at Euroblast, Fort Rock and Welcome To Rockville (Fort Rock and W.T.R both in 2014), the band has been quite busy ranking up a broader fan base with their truly original composed music.

The Studio at Webster Hall held this show with open arms. A set lasting roughly one hour and 20 minutes, the band delved into their old EP’s from Smoke Bomb and New Dawn and hit their major pieces off Silent Machine like “Mother Sky, Ain’t That A Bi**h, Shruiken and obviously their hit single Coming For You. Being able to capture the entire set from the side steps of the stage was amazing. The band had no problem me moving from side to side capturing the moments of this prized NYC return. The crowd was relentless. Jumping around and saving their crowd-surfing antics towards the last three songs. Jose Mangin made an appearance that night, being the person to introduce the band on stage and also showed us his crowd-surfing abilities (photos below). Lighting was severely mixed, keeping my ISO range on fully fronted guessing game. Between non-lit crowds and lit band members and vice versa, I found myself ripping out whatever hair I had. However, I am satisfied with these as The Studio has been very good to me in terms of getting quality material. Go check out Twelve Foot Ninja’s material from Silent Machine, Smoke Bomb and New Dawn. Amazing material and one hell of a live show. I will be printing some of these for autographs so no pun intended when I say this, but be ready i’m coming for you!!!!
